After tearing his ACL in his senior year of high school, Kentucky freshman quarterback Nik Scalzo was looking forward to showing off the results of his recovery in 2019. Unfortunately, he’s suffered another major setback.Scalzo re-injured his knee during a scrimmage this past weekend. Per the Courier Journal report, Scalzo’s knee gave out when he planted to make a cut on a run.Speaking to the media this week, head coach Mark Stoops confirmed that the injury will require surgery. He was gutted for Scalzo and expressed his hope that he can return to full health in the future.“[We’re] disappointed for him… He’s worked extremely hard to come back as fast as he did from the first surgery, to be cleared, to get out here and participate. He was doing a heck of a job.”“I really feel for him because that’s a hard surgery to recover from… He did it once, and he’ll have to do it again but I’m certain he’ll be back at full strength.”Coming out of high school, Nik Scalzo was a three-star prospect and the No. 1,235 recruit in the country. Per 247Sports, Scalzo was the No. 28 dual-threat quarterback in the nation and the No. 169 prospect from the state of Florida. Scalzo was also one of the subjects of the Netflix original series QB1: Under the Lights. His season of the show hit the streaming service one day before the new ACL injury.As for Kentucky, Scalzo was competing for the No. 4 quarterback role this year, and have an established starter in Terry Wilson.
