Police detain two suspects for allegedly pelting stones at Australia cricket team bus in Guwahati

first_imgPolice in Guwahati have detained two people in connection to the alleged stone pelting incident on the Australian cricket team bus on Tuesday night.The Australian team suffered a scare following their Twenty20 international win over India in Guwahati after a rock was thrown at their team bus, shattering one of the windows, governing body Cricket Australia (CA) said.Players and staff were travelling from Busapara Stadium back to their team hotel in the eastern city when the rock pierced the window on the right-hand side of the bus, CA said on its website.The board said the rock was “believed to be roughly the size of a cricket ball” and had ended up inside the bus.”We have picked up two people from the area under Garchuk Police Station where the incident took place last night. We are interrogating them,” Guwahati police commissioner Hiren Nath told India Today.Posting an image of a shattered window pane, Aussie opener Aaron Finch had first brought the security breach to the notice of the authorities. The team was returning to their hotel when the incident took place despite heavy security.The incident has shocked sports fans across the country with Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal directing state chief secretary to conduct an inquiry and submit an immediate report.”Really unfortunate incident after a great game aimed to tarnish Guwahati’s reputation as emerging sports hub.
