Weinsteins Impact List of men accused of sexual misconduct

first_imgNEW YORK, N.Y. – Since The New York Times published allegations of sexual harassment and assault against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein in October, multiple men in entertainment, media and politics in the U.S. and beyond have faced allegations ranging from inappropriate behaviour to forced sexual misconduct to rape.To be sure, prominent men have faced sexual misconduct claims before. But the accusations against Weinstein have opened a floodgate, sparked an international conversation and put new pressure on companies, industries, and political leaders to respond. President Donald Trump has condemned some of the accused, been more muted about others, and found himself again being asked about sexual harassment and misconduct allegations levelled against him during last year’s presidential campaign. The Republican says they’re fake. The #Metoo moment is also prompting re-examination of past sexual misconduct claims against powerful men, including Democratic former President Bill Clinton in the 1990s. Chinas Long March3B rocket series complete 300 launches

first_imgBeijing: China’s Long March-3B rocket, regarded as the main stay of the country’s space programme since 1970, successfully completed its 300th launch by putting a new communication satellite into orbit on Sunday. The indigenously-built rocket had send more than 500 spacecraft into space. “This is a milestone for China’s space industry development,” Wu Yansheng, board chairman of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) said. Also Read – Imran Khan arrives in China, to meet Prez Xi Jinping The Long March carrier rocket series, developed by CASC, is responsible for about 96.4 per cent of all the launch missions in China. It took 37 years for the Long March rockets to complete the first 100 launches, 7.5 years to complete the second 100 launches, and only about four years to accomplish the final 100, with the average number of launches per year increasing from 2.7 to 13.3 and then to 23.5, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. Also Read – US blacklists 28 Chinese entities over abuses in Xinjiang The Long March carrier rockets helped provide launch services for countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, including Algeria, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. “Intensive launches have become normal in China, indicating the rapid development of the space industry, the progress of science and technology and the enhancement of national strength,” said Shang Zhi, director of the Space Department of the CASC. China joined the space club on April 24, 1970, when the Long March-1 carrier rocket launched the country’s first satellite, Dongfanghong-1, into orbit. At that time, the carrying capacity of the Long March rocket was only 300 kg. On November 3, 2016, China’s current largest carrier rocket, the Long March-5, made its maiden flight, with its carrying capacity reaching 25 tonnes for low-Earth orbit and 14 tonnes for geosynchronous orbit. The success rate of the 300 launches of the Long March rockets stood at 96 per cent, according to CASC. During the third 100 launches, the Long March rockets sent a total of 225 spacecraft, weighing about 240 tonnes, into space, with a success rate of 97 per cent, reaching a high level in the world, said Shang. From October 1996 to August 2011, the Long March rockets set a world record for 15 years of successful consecutive launches. In 2018, the Long March rockets completed 37 consecutive successful launches, ranking a global first for the highest number of successful launches. A total of 17 types of Long March carrier rockets have been developed and put into use since 1970, ensuring the implementation of a series of key space projects including manned space program, lunar exploration, BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) and the Gaofen Earth observation project. In addition, the Long March carrier rockets also launched a large number of meteorological satellites, resource satellites and oceanographic satellites, as well as several innovative science satellites including DAMPE to search for dark matter, the world’s first quantum satellite, and an electromagnetic satellite to study earthquakes, playing an important role in promoting the economic, social and scientific development in China, the Xinhua report said. Currently, China is developing new generation medium launch vehicles including the Long March-6A, Long March-7A and Long March-8. A test version of the Long March-5B, which has the largest carrying capacity to low-Earth orbit, has been produced and will be used to launch the modules of China’s space station, according to CASC. China’s heavy-lift carrier rocket, the Long March-9, is expected to make its maiden flight around 2030 and will support manned lunar exploration, deep space exploration and construction of a space-based solar power plant. The diameter of the body of the Long March-9 rocket will be nearly 10 meters. And the manufacturing of the rocket will also push forward the development of new materials, technologies, devices and equipment. The new generation launch vehicles will gradually replace the old generation carrier rockets, and space transport vehicles will transition from one-time use to reusable in the future, Shang said.last_img read more

IT dept files 11 charge sheets against lobbyist Deepak Talwar

first_imgNew Delhi: The Income Tax Department has filed as many as 11 charge sheets against corporate aviation lobbyist Deepak Talwar for alleged tax evasion by him and his companies, official sources said Tuesday. They said the prosecution complaints have been filed before a special court here last week under Section 276C(1) (prosecution for wilful attempt to evade tax) and Section 277 (false statement in verification) of the Income Tax Act. While six are fresh complaints, the rest are supplementary charge sheets to the main complaints filed in 2017 by the department against Talwar. These pertain to different assessment years, the sources said. “Investigations have revealed that the accused was the beneficiary of a complex global corporate structure of several entities in different offshore jurisdictions like British Virgin Islands, Mauritius, Singapore, Hong Kong which received funds from foreign entities,” a senior tax department official said, quoting contents of the charge sheets. “A part of such money was also routed back in India for investment through multiple layers in foreign countries,” he added.last_img read more

As in many of our sports forecasts, each NWSL team’s rating is reverted toward the league average between seasons to account for factors such as changes in personnel and retirements. For the NWSL, two-thirds of a team’s rating from the previous season carries over into the new season; that amount is based on the first three seasons and is in line with other soccer leagues around the world (both men’s and women’s). This year’s results, however, may indicate that NWSL teams should be reverted further toward the league average each season. Or maybe this is just a crazy season. Only time (and more data) will tell. If at the start of the National Women’s Soccer League season you thought two-time defending champions FC Kansas City would be in third-to-last place just over halfway through the season or that two-time regular-season champions Seattle Reign FC would have almost as many losses as they did in their previous two seasons combined, you’re either psychic or your predictive abilities are far greater than ours. Before this year’s matches got underway, we built a model to forecast the league using the best information we had available: data from the three previous NWSL seasons. But because two of those years were dominated by Seattle and Kansas City, correctly predicting this year’s chaos in the league would have been very difficult. So with the table in tumult and the end of the regular season not far off, we thought this would be good time to update our initial predictions, see what’s changed and look ahead to which four teams are most likely to reach the playoffs this fall. Below is a table showing each team’s overall rating — made up of offensive and defensive components (higher is better for both) — as well as its projected win-loss-tie record and its chances of making the playoffs. Sky Blue97.299.494.57.36.95.82073 Kansas City103.696.1113.26.08.35.7521 TEAMOVERALLOFF.DEF.WLTPLAYOFFSFINALSWIN This year’s surprise standout, the Western New York Flash, has skyrocketed to the top of our table and now has the greatest chance of winning the NWSL championship — 37 percent — up from just a 5 percent chance before the season started. With the league’s top two goal scorers, Lynn Williams and Jessica McDonald (seven and six goals, respectively), the Flash are almost certain to earn a playoff spot. The Washington Spirit will likely grab another — our model gives them a 96 percent chance of making the playoffs. There’s a little less certainty for the third and fourth playoff spots. The Portland Thorns are currently in first place in the league, with 26 points, and have an 86 percent chance of making the postseason. But the team has lost their past two games, in part because several national team players have been absent as they prepare for the Olympics. So Portland may continue to fall in our rankings over the next month. The Chicago Red Stars’ chances of making the playoffs have remained about the same from our initial forecast — dropping to 46 percent from 47 percent — but a strong start to the season has given way to three losses in the past four games. The biggest shock this season, however, has undoubtedly been the rapid descent of the league’s top two teams, Seattle and Kansas City. Both teams were heavily favored in our initial predictions — with a 78 percent and 72 percent chance of making the playoffs, respectively — but at this point, it’s extremely unlikely that either team will earn a playoff berth. There are still six weeks of matches left, but both teams’ chances of winning the championship have plummeted more than 20 percentage points since the season started. read more

Keita should thrive at Liverpool – Xabi Alonso

first_imgOne of former Liverpool midfielder favourites Xabi Alonso says Naby Keita is in the right frame of mind to become a shining star under the leadership of Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp.Alonso retired from playing football in 2017 and has showered praises for the latest Liverpool signing while also being confident he will make a tangible impact at Anfield.“He’s a big personality,” Alonso, who came up against Keita twice during his final season at Bayern Munich, told Liverpool’s official website.“He has the hunger, the will to compete, and after in football terms he’s an all-around midfielder.“[He’s] Good with the ball, he runs and dribbles very quickly with the ball, but he also likes to make things tick in the midfield.”divock origi, liverpoolReport: Origi cause Klopp injury concerns George Patchias – September 14, 2019 Divock Origi injury in today’s game against Newcastle is a cause for concern for Jurgen Klopp.Perhaps with one eye on Tuesday’s trip to Italy…Alonso added:“I think for this position in front of the holding midfielder, or even as a holding midfielder [or] close to the front three, he can have that role to find the space and to be up there. So [he’s a] good signing.“He will have to adapt to the idea [of Klopp’s philosophy], but I don’t think that he will have many problems because he’s a great player and very complete.“[Under] Jurgen you need to do [play like] ‘bang, bang, bang’ and if he gets it, he will do well. [I see him as] An eight. I would say an eight, sometimes he can play as a six, but I could see him more as an eight behind the three strikers.”last_img read more

Steven Gerrard warns his side about improved defence

first_imgRangers head coach Steven Gerrard has warned his side that they will need to radically improve their defending of set-plays in order for them to stop shipping points.Even after Kyle Lafferty scored a brace at Fir Park before Ovie Ejaria’s strike, Rangers failed to win in the 93rd minute after Peter Hartley turned in Gael Bigirimana’s corner.‘I’m bitterly disappointed with the timing of the equaliser, Gerrard said via Daily Mail.‘It obviously hurts that little bit more when it comes that late. We were a set-piece away from taking maximum points against tough opposition.’‘I thought we defended very well to their style in open play for the majority of the game.‘But we haven’t defended anywhere near well enough on set plays. We’ve been done twice.’Steven Gerrard, Michael OwenOwen reveals why Liverpool didn’t offer Gerrard a new contract Manuel R. Medina – September 6, 2019 According to Owen, the Reds wanted to sell Gerrard two years before he left the club and that’s why they didn’t offer him a contract renewal.Although Connor Goldson slip allowed Danny Johnson to give Motherwell a lead after just three minutes, Gerrard protected his defender Connor Goldson from blame.‘The first goal was an unlucky one obviously’, he added.‘I’ve been there myself so I feel for Connor on that one.‘We got off to a bad start in the game but then showed really good character and some really good football to get back in the game.‘So I was pleased with that aspect and how we defended in general play but we’ve got work to do defending set-plays. That’s for sure.last_img read more

The reason Paul Pogba wont leave Manchester United

first_imgAfter so much speculation over Paul Pogba’s future, a report from Spain claims the reason Manchester United will never let Paul Pogba leave the club.As tensions grow higher between Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, there has been a lot of speculation over the future of both men at the club.Just a few days before the Red Devils played that Premier League match at Old Trafford against Newcastle, there were reports from the English media that suggested Jose Mourinho will get sacked for good regardless of his result against Rafa Benitez’s squad. The match finally arrived and the Red Devils struggled to get a victory, the Portuguese manager claimed after that match that there was a manhunt against him and the players were scared because of that.Paul Pogba’s case is even more interesting than Mourinho’s because it’s well-known that his agent wants the French midfielder to leave the club by the end of the season but that can be impossible because of a very compelling reason. The French player has been repeatedly going public on social media about his desire to leave the club, with ambiguous messages and public statements that have angered the fans mostly. The Glazers will NOT sanction the sale of Paul Pogba. He is Manchester United’s ‘Messi’ and is untouchable according to the owners. He is an integral member of the squad, with or without José Mourinho. (Source: Mundo Deportivo) pic.twitter.com/pdwoBmKEi6— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) October 12, 2018But regardless of what either the player or his agent want for the future, a report fro Mundo Deportivo confirms that the Glazer Family has absolutely no intention of letting their most expensive player leave and they would rather pay Mourinho his €27 million instead of accepting any offers for Paul Pogba. The former Juventus player grew up in the Manchester United academy, only a misunderstanding with Sir Alex Ferguson drew him away from the club but the Glazer family regards Pogba as their own “Lionel Messi” due to his beginnings as a Red Devil and all the history he has with the club. The board of directors plans to approach directly to the player and keep offering him as many contract renewals as he wants, because they want him to retire at Manchester United and take the club back to its glory days with his skills. The problem here is that Pogba might not want to stay at the club for many years, the Glazers will have to do a lot of convincing with both him and the agent in order to keep him interested. The last resort plan would be to sell him if he wanted to leave for good, but they would make the negotiations extremely difficult for any club that came after him.David Villa, FC BarcelonaTop 10 players who played for both Barcelona and Valencia Boro Tanchev – September 14, 2019 Time to talk about the best players who represented both Barcelona and Valencia, prior to their La Liga encounter at Camp Nou this evening..@paulpogba with the Mickey Mouse hands 😂 pic.twitter.com/dBpBNzSaIT— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) October 12, 2018FC Barcelona is well aware of the whole situation, they already know where the club owners stand and they are not willing to go to war against them over one player. This new information about Paul Pogba is the reason the Catalan club is already looking for other options, because they consider the Frenchman as an impossible target right now. There is no way that FC Barcelona is going to offer more than €100 million for any player, even if that player is named Paul Pogba and he is one of the best midfielders in the world. Also, this whole situation kind of looks like it’s not going to end well for Jose Mourinho regardless of what happens. We say that very loosely because even if he gets sacked by the Glazer family, the man will walk away with a big fat check and the chance of coaching another great club around Europe. This is a win-win situation for the Portuguese manager, and not so much for Paul Pogba because he doesn’t really have much say in this whole situation.Los campeones del Mundo no paran de celebrar 😎(Vía @paulpogba ) pic.twitter.com/p1OVYUMvta— Goal en español (@Goal_en_espanol) October 12, 2018What do you think about the Glazer family not letting Paul Pogba leave Manchester United? Buffon is not after the Champions League anymore

first_imgItalian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, told the press that his dream of someday winning the Champions League is long gone from his targets. In the life of Gianluigi Buffon throughout over 24 years of career, winning the Champions League almost became an obsession but he never really could fulfill that life goal after so many years.Watching the goalkeeper crying after losing a final became something very common during his time at Juventus, his side was simply not fortunate enough to get that recognition and he eventually decided to stop losing sleep over it.Now that he has made the switch to PSG, the Italian goalie is mostly thinking about the best way to retire and he considered several options as he revealed this Tuesday.PSG just won a Coupe de la Ligue match vs Orleans 2-1, Buffon got in for Areola during the second half and played a fairly good match in the time he had to prove that he is still in great shape. After the game, the press wanted to ask him some questions about retirement and what he is expecting in the Champions League this season for PSG.Manager Thomas Tuchel has made the decision to split the time for both goalkeepers, something that has filled the Italian with hopes for him this season. It was going to take a special offer to keep Gianluigi Buffon in football. He got it ✍️ pic.twitter.com/N4znJu9lPu— B/R Football (@brfootball) December 18, 2018“I had decided to retire. In my mind, I thought the only option was if Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid or Barcelona had come calling,” he told RMC as quoted by Football Italia.“They were the clubs I considered crazy, a dream that wasn’t really worth thinking about seriously. So I was already organizing my post-football life.”“Yet this call arrived in May. I took two weeks to think about it, because if I make a promise and give my word, I want to do it well. I don’t like to embarrass myself.”“After a little introspection and analysis, I thought to myself, I can do another year or two and I can do it well.”“I think PSG will be my last club, because this was a gift to me from life, a reward for behaving professionally. I want to stop playing at a top level club. I never considered going to another country, as I started at a top level and want to end at a top level, that is for sure.”Colin Dagba, France,How Dagba become one of PSG’s regulars Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 21-year-old full-back Colin Dagba had a very difficult time to break into professional football, but now he’s one of PSG’s regular players.“As soon as I met the directors, they said our objective is not to win the Champions League, because over seven years we’ve realized this is really difficult. You can’t set that as a target, but we have the ambition to improve, that is true.”“Paris Saint-Germain reached the quarter-finals, so the objective is to take a couple more steps forward and keep going that way.”“I have been trying for 24 years to win the Champions League and never won it! So I know how hard it is to have just that objective, and above all how wrong it can be to have just that as an objective,” he concluded.Tiene 40 años y sigue compitiendo en la UEFA Champions League.
