Leguan Bridge’s condition worries parents, farmers

first_imgThe deteriorating state of a bridge that connects the villages of Waterloo and Mariville on the Essequibo island of Leguan has left residents fearful for their safety, especially parents.On Sunday, Guyana Times was informed that the bridge posed a grave risk to the children who cross it to attend school as well as farmers who transport their produce across it.Many of the boards on the bridge are raised and some sections have holes and gaps that are too wide. This newspaper was also told that on Sunday morning, a motorcyclist narrowly avoided an accident after dropping into with one of the holes in a section of the bridge.A section of the deplorable bridge at Leguan, EssequiboAccording to reports received, the bridge has been deteriorating over the last four months despite residents voicing their concerns to operatives of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC). Guyana Times understands that the Assistant Regional Executive Officer (AREO) has a sub-office on the island and has been informed of the bridge’s deplorable state.
