Several Police Officers in the D Division (West Bank Demerara-East Bank Essequibo) were honoured forRural Constable Maywattie James honoured for contribution to social crime prevention programmestheir outstanding service in the Force’s Community Relations and Social Crime Prevention programmes. At an award ceremony held at the Leonora Station compound, West Coast Demerara, on Wednesday, the Guyana Police Force’s D Division issued certificates, plaques and trophies to ranks, members of the business community and faith-based organisations for their contribution to crime reduction programmes in the district.Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud, who was also honoured, noted that these awards are meant to recognise people for their efforts and that it would encourage officers to continue in the same vein.“It [the awards] will not only add value to the social crime prevention programme but [we] can have safer communities,” the Commissioner posited.Persaud added that it helps officers to maintain best practices in dealing with members of the community.“There is a sense of ownership that is created, the working partnership is down a grass root level and people know each other on a one on one [basis]; it’s a work in progress but it can go a long way from where it is,” he pointed out.Meanwhile, D Division Commander Stephen Mansell told Guyana Times hat the exercise could also motivate the business community to do more for the people in the Division.Some of the businesses honoured were Bacchus Poultry Farm, Seenarine Auto Sales and Sunrise Wood Buildings. Police ranks who received special recognition included Commander Mansell; Sergeant Yonette Edwards; Inspector Andre Grant; Corporal Veronica Wilson; Constables Green, Collins, and Edmonson; and Rural Constables Donnette Brammer and Maywattie James.The awards period covered July 2015 to July 2016.
