Required fields are marked * Community News Sports PCC Men’s Hoops Go 1-2 at Imperial Valley Holiday Classic By ROBERT LEWIS Published on Sunday, January 3, 2016 | 2:55 pm Lancer transfer forward Darrell Childs.The Pasadena City College men’s basketball team closed out the year 2015 by taking sixth place in the Imperial Valley Holiday Classic. The Lancers lost the consolation final against fellow South Coast Conference North Division foe El Camino-Compton Center, 83-72, on December 30.PCC is 4-10 but did snap a 5-game losing streak with a 64-46 triumph over the tourney host Imperial Valley on Dec. 29. The Lancers opened the tournament with a 59-49 defeat against Palomar.In the Compton game, Pasadena jumped ahead, 45-35, by halftime as Todd Barnes scored 18 of his team-high 22 points. The Tartars responded with a 26-4 run to open the second half an controlled the offfensive rebounding boards to propel their win. Tey Williams scored 20 points while Darrell Childs performed a double-double on 12 points and 10 rebounds.In defeating IVC, PCC led only 32-26 at halftime, then shot 56 percent from the floor in the second half to put the game away. Corey Robinson led the way with 18 points, four assists and three steals. Childs added 18 points and six rebounds while letterman Jeremy Jean tallied 11 points and eight rebounds.Against Palomar, Aaron Yu scored 12 points, sinking four 3-point bombs and added six assists. Scoring 11 points each were Childs (and 7 rebounds), Barnes (and five boards), and Williams (plus five assists and four steals). Palomar used an 8-0 run to the end the first half in taking a 32-23 lead.PCC will play a SCC crossover game at Long Beach City College on Wednesday, Jan. 6. Tip-off is 7 p.m. or 20 minutes following the conclusion of the women’s game.
